Q. What is a nozzle?
| A. Nozzles, or "jets" are located on the print head. There may be anywhere from 48 to 320 nozzles on any print head, and each of them is smaller than human hair. Each nozzle is connected electronically to a heater (resistor) that actually heats and cools the ink inside the cartridge. When the ink is heated, a bubble is formed. When the heat is removed, the bubble bursts and sends dots of ink through the nozzles and onto the paper in the printer. This happens very quickly, creating dots that form print characters on the page at a rate of up to 6,000 drops per second. That is why you should never touch the nozzle or print head assembly with your fingers.

Q. What is a print head?
| A. The print head is the most critical component in an inkjet printer - it is used to deliver the ink cartridge to the page that you are printing. Most desktop inkjet printers use cartridges that come with the print head attached; a few printers have separate print heads next to which the ink cartridge is inserted. Please don't touch the print head with your fingers. The print head is a consumable that can wear out over time, much like the brakes on your car. It requires proper installation and ongoing maintenance to ensure the long life of service for your printer. Most print quality problems come from a direct result of improper care of the print head. Proper installation, ongoing attention and maintenance are the keys to prolonging the life of your print head.

Q. What is the difference between dye-based and pigment-based ink?
| A. Dye ink uses water-soluble dye and pigment ink uses water-insoluble particles to deliver color to the paper. There a few major differences between inks that are dye-based and pigment-based. Epson's patented Durabrite is a pigment-based ink formula. Pigment based ink are much more resistant toward water stains and sunlight. Dye based printouts will become fazed by water stains, where pigment based printout would not be effected. Pigment-based ink printouts may withstand direct sunlight exposure for years, while dye-based printouts may last half to one year before noticeable fading happens. Dye based ink do have a wider color gamut compared to pigment based ink. Some people find printouts using dye based ink have more vibrancy.

Q. What does OEM mean? What is an OEM cartridge?
A. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. OEMs, such as HP, Canon, Epson and Lexmark are the companies that manufacture your printers. OEM cartridges are cartridges that are branded under your OEM's brand.

Q. What does remanufactured cartridge mean?
A. Recycled cartridges that are disassembled by third parties (other than OEMs) and have their worn parts replaced are called remanufactured cartridges. To guarantee print quality, remanufactured cartridges are refilled, tested in the factory and repackaged.

Q. What does compatible cartridge mean?
A. Compatible cartridges (replacements) are manufactured by third parties (other than OEMs) and fully compatible with OEMs. Compatible cartridges are the imitation of the OEMs.

Q. What does refilling my cartridge mean?
A. Refilling is simply the process of injecting the ink from a bottle into your existing cartridge using a syringe (all the necessary tools are provided in our refill kits). OEMs usually do not tell their customers that cartridges may be reused or recycled many times before you need a new one.

Q. My cartridge is leaking, what have i done wrong?
A. The cartridge may be overfilled. Allow the ink to flow out, using a tissue or cloth to absorb the ink. The syringe may not have been inserted deep enough or the ink was injected too fast. Review your refill kit’s instruction closely to assure that all steps were followed correctly.
|

Q. Why replace empty cartridges as soon as they run out?
A. If you leave empty cartridges in your printer or remove a empty cartridge and not replace it with a new one at the same time you run the risk of blocking the print head. The old left over ink will dry up and the print head may need to be cleaned before the new cartridge will work.

Q. What does refilling my cartridge mean?
A. Refilling is simply the process of injecting the ink from a bottle into your existing cartridge using a syringe (all the necessary tools are provided in our refill kits).

Q. Can I reset the tank empty warning after refilling the cartridges in the new Pixma series?
| A. Chip resetters are now available. If you wish not to buy a chip resetter please read below.
* PGI-5BK & CLI-8 - there is an electronic counter embedded in a small computer chip. This counter starts at a high number and decreases for every character printed. Eventually, the counter reaches zero. At this point, an error message is generated by the printer. If you click OK to the error message, the printer will continue to print. If you have trouble getting your printer to print because it thinks the cartridges are empty. Look on your printer for an orange blinking light. This is your reset button, usually the paper feed button also. Hold this button in for 5 seconds until the light goes out. Note: this will not reset the ink level back to full. |

Q. What is the shelf life of your products?
A. Our cartridge's shelf life is the same as the OEM, usually around 24 months for the OEM and remanufactured cartridges and about 24-36 months for the compatible cartridges and refill kits. If properly stored (kept in original packaging in a cool and dry location), cartridges may last longer.

Q. Is refilling messy?
A. We include protective gloves in all our kits because refilling for the first time may be a bit messy - so is cooking or painting if you do not prepare for it. If things are a bit messy, it is usually only until you get the hang of them. When refilling you should always take the proper precautions. After all, accidents can happen! Easyrefills recommends doing it at the kitchen sink, and covering your work area with newspaper or old cloth in case of accidental spillage. That way surfaces are protected and you are handy to water to wash your hands should you get some ink on you.

Q. Why do business with us?
| A. A good question. All we can say is that Easyrefills has sold thousands of refill kits and has received glowing feedback from our customers. On the rare occasion someone is dissatisfied, we find that they did not take the time to read our user friendly instructions. Easyrefills use premium grade inks manufactured in the USA to printer specifications. Easyrefills prices are very competitive, if not the lowest price available per cartridge refill. Photographic instructions are provided with each kit and our help desk can provide assistance over the phone on any question you may have.
There are other refill companies around, but our customers are very glad they chose Easyrefills. |

Q. How much money will I save by refilling my own cartridges?
A. Savings vary with the printer and cartridge type and printing frequency. Refilling is approximately 20% of the cost of a new cartridge. These savings can increase substantially, based on how much ink you buy, but savings can be much more for certain models. A conservative example for a common printer is the Canon 4000; a colour refill kit costs $39.00 for 8 refills - about $6.70 per refill; a Canon cartridge would cost about $28, depending on where it was purchased. Refill prices can be as low as $1 and $3.50 per refill for many printer models.

Q. Do different printer brands and models use different inks?
A. Yes. In fact, most printer manufacturers design different models for use with different inks. For example an HP51626A and HP51629A - although identical cartridges - use different inks. The Canon BJI-201, BC-21, BC-02 cartridges all use different inks. It is very important to order the proper refill kit for your specific printer and cartridge type, as inks can vary markedly in composition and characteristics. Placing the wrong ink in your cartridge may cause damage to your print head

Q. Are your inks as good as the original cartridges?
A. Our inks have the same chemical properties as the original inks. Easyrefills has over 200 different types of inks that are individually manufactured for the many types of different cartridges. Some companies use generic brand inks which are cheaper and are used in several different cartridges. Generic inks may differ in quality and cannot be matched specifically to a printer, allowing for variation in quality of the print. You won't notice a difference with our inks.

Q. Are your kits guaranteed?
A. Yes. Easyrefills offers a money back guarantee in the event of faulty product or workmanship.

Q. Is there any sacrifice of print quality?
A. There should be no sacrifice in print quality. Easyrefills inks are chemically identical, premium grade inks. You will notice the colours are more vibrant on speciality print media, and photo inks are available for the high definition printing required for photographs.

Q. One of my coloured inks runs out before the others, how can I stop wasting the other inks?
A. You do not have to waste the remaining ink if you refill your cartridges. It is normal that one colour in a three chamber colour cartridge will be used at a faster rate than the others. The great thing about refilling your own cartridges is that you no longer have to waste the other inks. Simply refill the empty chamber and top off the others. We strongly recommend that you refill your cartridge when it is still about half full.

Q. Do I need to be technically gifted to refill my cartridge?
A. Not at all, it really is quite simple. Yes, it is a different procedure to the one you are used to (popping in an expensive cartridge), but you will get the hang of it. All you have to be able to do is:
- Read
- Follow directions
- Have normal motor function in your hands
Easyrefills has designed the instructions to be fool-proof and they are continually being tested and updated. We provide photographic, step by step instructions and include any small tools you might need. Children as young as nine have used our kits successfully. |

Q. How long will it take to refill a cartridge?
A. It is really a simple procedure. The kits include pictorial instructions and diagrams and it is not rocket science. The first time you refill you will need to pay attention to the instructions and be aware of possible spillage. If you have a question, send us an email for a quick reply, or phone our help line on 1300 730018 (from within Australia) during business hours. It generally takes only minutes to refill a cartridge, although several types should be left to settle before placing them back in the printer.

Q. How do I clean up spilt ink?
A. Soap and water (on an old cloth) should do the trick, and perhaps a little mild bleach and water solution if needed. The first time you refill a cartridge, it's very possible you may get a little ink on your hands. To get the ink off, simply wash your hands with soap to remove any excess oils and use a mild bleach and water solution.

Q. How do I extend the life of my cartridge?
A. The main reason cartridges have a limited refill life is the resistors that control the current to each outlet jet. When a cartridge runs out of ink, the resistors can overheat and burn out. Most printers will warn you of the ink level in the cartridge, so that it doesn't run out of ink. You should refill (or top up) your cartridge when only half empty to ensure a long refillable life. If your printing appears faded, faint, or patchy on the paper, you have left it to late before refilling.

Q. How many times can a cartridge be refilled?
A. Cartridges without the print head in them can, in theory, be refilled an infinite number of times. Other factors can, however, affect this. Drying out, clogging, print head age, and frequency of use can all contribute. As a guide, cartridges without print heads can be refilled at least 5 times. Although some Epson cartridges have been known to be a little stingy only allowing you to refill them 2-3 times. There are several techniques useful for prolonging the life of your cartridge, so that you get as many refills as possible for maximum savings:
- Never let a cartridge run dry (cartridges with built in print heads can burn out their resistors if operated while dry).
- Always keep an extra cartridge refilled, ready to load in the printer.
- Adopt the habit of topping up your cartridge instead of waiting until it runs out.
- Don't touch the copper terminals or circuit board on print-head cartridges
- Do not allow your cartridge to remain without ink. Always refill your cartridge IMMEDIATELY upon running out of ink.
- Store your unused cartridges in a plastic zip-lock bag with a piece of damp paper towel. Easyrefills has print-head cleaning kits available.
Most Cartridges can be refilled at least 5 times. There are several ways you can prolong the life of your cartridge so that you several refills per cartridge. Imagine saving up to $25.00 each time you refill a cartridge! |

Q. What comes in a refill kit?
A. Everything you need to refill is included in the Easyrefills refill kit. The kits come complete with photographic step-by-step instructions and equipment. Black kits contain 140ml of ink, and colour kits contain 40ml of each colour. Both have a guaranteed shelf life of two years.

Q. How long will it take for your kits to get to me?
A. That depends entirely on whether you request a rush delivery. We ship through Australia Post and their ELADS tracking system to ensure your product arrives safely without delay. You can request quicker service, but our standard shipping is a 2 - 3 day delivery depending where in Australia you live. For international deliveries we will quote a time on request.

Q. If I don't have the time to refill my own cartridges, can you do it for me?
A. This service is geared more towards our local market, so we suggest that you just try the refill kits. You would use the same technique as we would and you would save a lot more money. The chances of your cartridge being damaged in transit is not an issue if you have the refill kit sent to you.

Q. Is it safe to order over the Internet with my credit card?
| A. We believe it is safer than going to a restaurant and paying with a credit card and allowing your credit card to be handled by strangers. When you order from the comfort of your own chair on our secure server your credit card number is encrypted and cannot be intercepted while in secure mode. It's the same as making a withdrawal at an ATM; the same technology is used. You also can order by calling us toll free from anywhere in Australia on 1300-730018 ( +61 7 33678888 for an international call). You can also print out your order form and fax it to us to on 07 33678944. We accept Visa or Master Card via the internet and over the phone, also Bank Card by phone. Other payment options are direct deposit to our bank account, cheque, and C.O.D. orders. Choose whichever option is most comfortable for you.
